The Stand is a post-apocalyptic horror/fantasy novel by American author Stephen King. It expands upon the scenario of his earlier short story, "Night Surf".

This thread is an example of how we can discuss each book, I haven't actually read The Stand yet, but needed an example.

Q: Was it a good book?
Q: What did you like about it?
Q: What did you dislike about it?
Q: Who was your favorite character? Why?
Q: Which character did you not like? Why?
Q: How did you feel about the ending of the book/stories?

Q: Which stories did you like the most?
Q: Which stories did you like the least?

Q: Was it a good book?

A: Oh yeah it was a great book. Stephen King always sets the scene and makes believable characters. The thing with this book, it's about an epidemic that wipes out a bunch of the population. It's more scary because that could happen. In fact,Ebola now is sorta like this.

Q: What did you like about it?

A: Stephen totally owned this book. What I mean is, it was just so real. It was made into a movie, very long movie with a few parts as it was so long, and the movie was just like the book. That's rare. Normally, a movie doesn't quite live up to the book. This was different though. He made the book so darned real. The characters so well painted and formed. Everything was just well put together.

Q: What did you dislike about it?

A: I'll come back to this after I go through the book again. Just wanted to respond. Right now, I can't think of anything other than it's scary to think of this happening. Moreso than hauntings because this kills just about everyone. Thinking of it happening and losing family and friends like that is scary.

Q: Who was your favorite character? Why?

A: Tough question. This book, as with most of his, makes such real characters that one feels as though one is "friends" with all of them. It would be easy to say Mother Abigail as she's the leader of the good folks but that's too easy an answer. I'll say Tom Cullen. Why? Because his "m-o-o-n, that spells _____" is something everyone that reads it and watches the movie remembers. Mildly retarded, or maybe more than mild, everything he sees is spelled m-o-o-n. He is an endearing character.

Q: Which character did you not like? Why?

    A. Harold Lauder. Sleazy individual. I don't want to say too much about his as it would give away a lot in the story. He is just weak willed and not a good friend to anyone.

Q: How did you feel about the ending of the book/stories?

A: I won't go into any details as discussing the ending would ruin it for those that haven't read it. I'll just say, it was a fitting end but sad too.

The Stand is so good, I've watched the movie, all of it, every time it's come on and have been waiting for it to come on again. They always do Stephen King marathons in October, which I look forward to, and I'll be watching it again when it comes on. :)
