We all have those days when inspiration is hard to find. What do you do when your mind hits such a roadblock but all you want to do is write? Try using one or all of these writing prompts and tips because you never know what sentence, picture or idea may help you find your muse again.
1. Imagine you had a hundred dollars, but you couldn’t keep it. You had to give it away to a person or charity. Who would you give it to? Why?
2. Finish the sentence: On a dark and stormy night…
3. Home from the airport after a long trip, you realize you have the wrong suitcase. What do you find inside?
4. Look through old photos and come up with one word for each picture and put it together as a sentence.
5. Finish the sentence: Beyond the sunset…
6. Scariest phrase you hate to hear.
7. Write down as many verbs as you can in 30 seconds that start with the letter R.
8. Choose your favorite city to live: Florence, Hong Kong, Barcelona, Fiji. Why?
9. Fill in 5 endings to this sentence (random is best): “I used to love to…”
10. Fill in 5 endings to this sentence (random is best): “But now I…”
11. Now combine the two fragments from (10 & 11) to make one complete sentence.
12. If you were five years old again you would?
13. If you could participate in an Olympic event, which one would you choose and why?
14. Describe your favorite season (fall, spring, summer, or winter) in five words or less.
